Krabi, Thailand

About a year ago we were deciding on the places to go for our honeymoon. We had to take a decision fast as our wedding dates were coming close on 25th Dec. 2015

We shortlisted a few places like Bali, Mauritius and Thailand. We had decided to go Southeast Asia for our trip and knew wanted to check out the beautiful beaches of Thailand. Some research and we finalised on Krabi, Thailand for our honeymoon trip.

We wanted a low touristy place and plenty of relaxation. We wanted the place to be more laid back and not crowded like other parts of Thailand especially Bangkok.

Arriving in Krabi

We took a flight from Mumbai to Krabi. Although there were no direct flight which was bit of a disappointment. we had a 4 hours halt at the Bangkok airport and we reached Krabi in  morning . We noticed that there were taxis option which can be taken from the airport. the Taxi service costs about 600 baht for a taxi. i.e.1137.74 Rupees. Although ours was covered by the hotel.

There is also an option for shared taxis that costs about 305 Rupees. tickets can be bought inside the airport, take your ticket and board the shuttle.

The journey takes about 40 minutes depending on traffic.

We stayed at the Aonang Cliff beach resort . We wanted to unpack and stay at one resort for our complete trip and not keep changing hotels.

Aonang is a beautiful resort and located just 10 min. walk from the beach. The Resort is a little less expensive than the expensive resorts on the beach.

We got the amazing Ocean view room with the open Jacuzzi in the balcony. The room had breath taking view of the ocean and the resort.

We spent the days splurging at the resort on the days we were not doing tours. they had many amazing places to relax and rejuvenate.

Around Ao Nang

There are plenty of things to do around Aonang beach.

  1. Walk on the beach
  2. Street shopping
  3. Street food
  4. Massages
  5. Night clubs
  1. Walk on the beach

Walk on the beach road or a walk on the beach is quite relaxing. When you walk down from the resort towards beach. The beach road divides in two sides the right side is filled with street shopping,  street food and there is also a city centre where there are many pubs and small restaurants. And on the left side are resorts, fancy restaurants, fine dine restaurant,  massage centres. The left side of the road is more quite and peaceful.

You can also go on the beach and walk through the ocean or take a dip in the waters. We enjoyed amazing fresh watermelon juice. Fresh tropical juices are found at every corner and trust me they are delicious and healthy too.

2. Street shopping

There are a variety of stores for street shopping from antique shops to ‘All things tourist’ . I loved shopping for souvenirs from these street shops. My very favourite were fragrance soaps. There come in variety of different shapes like orchids, banana, coconut and they have fragrance of those fruits or flowers. I picked a lot of friends and family.

Other popular items were fridge magnets, clothes, antiques,  pearl accessories.  Actually there is something for everyone.

3. Street food

There were many street food stalls across the beach. also there was a street with street food on the beach. They sold authentic Thai food for almost half price of the food sold in the restaurants. The stalls were surrounded by plastic chairs and tables and served fresh food throughout the day and night.

4. Massages

Aonang beach is filled with massage centres every other stores have massage centres. there are different types of massages like neck massages, full body massages. You can enjoy foot massage while on beach or a relaxing headmassage.

5.Night clubs

While our stay we couldn’t find any particular night club although to our surprise. On I think on day 3 we were out to go get some dinner and explore places nearby. We came across ‘CENTRE POINT’. It is a centre place with all the good restaurants and pubs on the side and all the pubs transforms into a dance floor after 10 pm. We would highly recommend all the party lovers to visit this place during the weekend.

The night is spectacular with cool performances great music, great food and unlimited music and dance.

Other Activities

There are a number of tours and travel offices/stalls that you would find to explore areas nearby.

The most popular ones are Island tours. So there is a four island tour that covers four islands near Krabi island.

Full day 4 Island tour/ Island hopping as they call it.

  • Chicken Island
  • Tup Island
  • Poda Island
  • Phra nang Cave

All the beaches were clean beautiful. mostly white soft sand. the temperature was high as we had visited in February month. but the temperature of water was perfect for swimming and snorkelling.

The only option for food on this tour is the local Thai food that is complimentary but not everybody would like that food as it was spicy and hot and raw. so would recommend to take some snacks as back-up.

Final Thoughts

Overall Krabi, Thailand was the best place to visit when we wanted to have adventure and relaxation at the same time. Would highly recommend to get sunscreens as they sell expensive sunscreens. you can buy a lot of food at the local convenience stores although the names are all in the Thai language and hard to understand what you are picking.

There are many options for restaurants and amazing cool juices and shakes. keep yourself hydrated and have fun..
